🇰🇪 Privacy Policy – Kenya Quiz

Kenya Quiz ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Charles Koech (apps@kck.co.ke). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used when you use the Kenya Quiz mobile application (the "App").

By using the App you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Display name (username): An optional nickname you choose inside the App. The default is "Player".
Avatar selection: The avatar index you choose to represent yourself.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device identifier: A randomly generated UUID created on your first app launch. It is never linked to your real identity and is used solely to authenticate your session anonymously (no email or phone number is required).
Game statistics: Scores, correct answers, total questions answered, games played, streaks, in-app coin balance, hints used, and last-played date.

1.3 Information Collected by Third Parties

The App uses Google AdMob to serve advertisements. AdMob may collect identifiers and usage data to provide personalised ads, including the device advertising ID (GAID), IP address, and general location. This collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time through your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID (Android 12+) or Opt out of Ads Personalisation (older Android versions).

2. How We Use Your Information

Username / avatar	Display on the global leaderboard and your profile
Game scores & stats	Power the leaderboard, track your personal progress, and award daily rewards
Ad data (via AdMob)	Display relevant advertisements that help keep the App free

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

Leaderboard server: Your username, avatar, and score are sent to our backend server to power the global leaderboard. This data is visible to all players who view the leaderboard.
Google AdMob: Ad-related identifiers are shared with Google as described in Section 1.3 above.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

4. Data Storage and Security

Game statistics and your token are stored locally on your device using Android Room and DataStore.
Your username, avatar, and scores are stored on our backend server.
We use industry-standard practices to protect data in transit (HTTPS in production) and at rest. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We do not store passwords — authentication is fully anonymous (device UUID + token).

5. Data Retention

Your local data remains on your device until you uninstall the App or use the "Reset Progress" option in Settings. Server-side data (leaderboard scores, username) is retained while the service is active. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us (see Section 9).

6. Children's Privacy

Kenya Quiz is a general-audience educational trivia app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require registration or any personally identifiable information.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Change your username/avatar: Editable at any time from the Profile screen.
Reset local progress: Available in Settings → Reset Progress. This clears all local stats but does not remove leaderboard entries already submitted.
Delete your account/data: Contact us at apps@kck.co.ke to request full deletion of your server-side data.
Opt out of personalised ads: Use your Android device settings as described in Section 1.3.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
